How to Upgrade the Hard Drive on the ThinkPad 600E

1. Replace the Main Hard Drive
* 1 Power off your Thinkpad and close the display. Unplug the AC adapter. Turn your Thinkpad over and position it so that the front end faces you.
* 2 Slide the battery release latch in the middle of your 600E's underside into the "Unlock" position. The battery pops out slightly. Pull the battery up to remove it.
* 3 Remove the coin screw to the right of the empty battery compartment. Pry off the hard drive cover beside the coin screw using your coin or screwdriver.
* 4 Pull the plastic tab outwards to remove your old hard drive. Place your old hard drive down gently in a safe place.
* 5 Push your new hard drive into the hard drive compartment. You do not need to apply much force. If you meet resistance, pull the hard drive out slightly and gently push it inward again.
* 6 Replace the hard drive compartment's cover. Replace the coin screw. Line the battery up with hinges toward the front of your 600E and pivot the battery downward to snap it into place.
* 7 Turn your Thinkpad upright. Plug in the AC adapter. Open the display.
* 8 Insert the disk of the operating system you wish to install into your 600E's CD-ROM drive. Power on your Thinkpad. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the operating system on your new hard drive.

Add a Second Hard Drive With the Ultraslim Bay
* 1 Power off your Thinkpad and close the display. Unplug the AC adapter. Turn your Thinkpad over and position it so that the front edge faces you.
* 2 Push the release slider for the Ultraslim Bay on the left side of your Thinkpad to the left. Pull out the device that is in the Ultraslim Bay.
* 3 Position your Ultraslim Bay hard drive-adapter so that the connector pins face you and the compartment for the hard drive faces up. Pull the metal stopper on the far end of the adapter upward.
* 4 Gently place your hard drive into the compartment with the label facing downward and the pins facing you. Place your two thumbs on the adapter's external pins. Use your index fingers to pull the hard drive toward the connectors until it is firmly connected.
* 5 Push the metal stopper back down. Slide the Ultraslim Bay HDD Adapter into your Thinkpad's Ultraslim Bay until it snaps into place.
